The EA113 and EA888 1.8T and 2.0T engines are found in a lot of Volkswagen Auto Group cars. In a slight twist, one of the most reliable used Volkswagen engines was originally designed by Audi, Haynes reports. The 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder ‘EA113’ engine was introduced in the 1997 Audi A4, Grassroots Motorsports reports.

Yea. I think the 3.2 is rated at 250 and the 2.0 between 200 and 210. That mean seem like a lot but that's pretty much capped for the 3.2. The 2.0t has a lot more headroom for changes and infinitely more aftermarket support (because no cares about an NA, non super charged v6). The 2.0t is a lot more approachable from a fabricator and tuner
The VW engine is mounted transversely and the Audi engine is mounted longitudinally. The A5 has the awesome ZF 8 speed transmission whereas the GLI probably has either the VW DSG or 8 speed by Aisen. Apparently the VW tuning of it is not as good as on BMW or Toyota. Also, the Audi has much more padding and sound insulation throughout the car.
Not yet seen a review favouring the 1.8 over the 2.0 but many comments saying that the 1.8 is a great buy at £3,035 less than the 2.0. As for performance, if you can cope with a 1.1sec 0-60 differential then the 4.3mpg improvement on the 1.8 (about 10%) plus the purchase cost saving should tip the balance!!

Latter model 2.0l have more low-end torque so they feel quicker than earlier models. 3.2l motors have been very reliable but there isn't much of an upgrade path if you're into tuning. Repair parts can be expensive and you will pay a premium if they are Audi branded.
